Questions and answers
Where does the data come from?
The FAA publishes its aircraft registry as a public database and updates it daily. The tail number, make, model, year, serial number, engine, and seat count on each card come straight from it.
Can I make a card for an airplane I do not own?
Yes. The registry data is public. The photo is the part that has to be yours: only upload pictures you took or have permission to use.
What if my airplane's data is wrong?
The card shows what the FAA has on file, and the registry does contain mistakes. You can overwrite the extra stat lines in the card maker. For anything else, email support@tailcards.com and we will fix your card by hand.
What are the extra stat lines?
Three lines on the back that you control. For common types we fill them in with typical cruise speed, range, and ceiling for the model. Those are type averages, so change them to match your airplane.
How is rarity decided?
By counting how many aircraft of the exact same model are on the registry. Common means 1,000 or more. Legendary means fewer than 10.
What size are the cards?
Standard trading card size, 2.5 by 3.5 inches, printed on both sides. They fit ordinary card sleeves and binders.
How long does an order take?
Every order is printed to order, which takes a few business days. Then it ships the way you choose at checkout: Standard, 10 to 13 business days (no tracking number); Express with tracking, 7 to 9 business days (tracked); Priority Express with tracking, 5 to 7 business days (tracked). With Standard, most orders arrive in 2 to 3 weeks.
Do you ship outside the United States?
Not yet. The site also only knows US-registered aircraft (tail numbers that start with N) for now.
What if my cards arrive damaged or misprinted?
Send us a photo and we will reprint them free. Because every order is custom, we cannot take returns otherwise.
Can you remove my aircraft from the site?
Yes. See removing an aircraft.
Are you affiliated with the FAA, a manufacturer, or any operator?
No. This is an independent product. Manufacturer and model names are used only to identify the aircraft.
